This retreat begins with a simple intention. To step into a different rhythm, in a place that naturally invites it.
Japan is a country we both deeply love. It’s somewhere we’ve returned to again and again, not just for the beauty, but for the feeling it creates.
There is a quiet order to life here. A respect for space, for ritual, for presence.
Temples rich in history. Landscapes that feel calm and expansive. Food that is thoughtful, seasonal, and deeply nourishing.
It’s clean, considered, and culturally rich in a way that is hard to explain until you experience it.
For this retreat, we’ve chosen Mount Minobu, a historic temple region known for its spiritual significance and peaceful mountain setting.
It offers something very different.
A slower pace. Cool, crisp air. A chance to step out of the heat, the noise, and the constant movement of everyday life.
And beyond the retreat itself, Japan invites exploration. You can extend your stay, travel, and experience more of what this country has to offer.

You will fly into either Tokyo or Osaka, then travel by train to JR Minobu Station. From there, a transfer to the temple is included and will be arranged for you.

Spaces are limited to 15 guests to keep the experience intimate and intentional.
Guests will stay across a combination of traditional temple rooms and a small number of nearby chalets, offering an authentic Japanese experience. Rooms are set up in a traditional style with futon bedding, with both single and shared options available.
Bathrooms are a mix of private and shared facilities, with most located within the temple. As we have exclusive use of the space, the atmosphere will feel intimate and private.
Shoes are removed indoors, and the environment is quiet and respectful, supporting rest and reflection. As this is a winter retreat, warm clothing is essential.
The temple also offers two communal baths, which can be reserved after check-in. One accommodates approximately four to six people, and the other two to three people.
I’ve never been on a yoga retreat before. Is this for me?
Yes. This retreat is designed to be welcoming and accessible, whether it is your first retreat or you have been on many before. You will be guided throughout the week and supported to move at your own pace.
What are the yoga practices like?
Each day includes a blend of Hatha and Yin yoga, alongside meditation and breathwork. The practices are steady, grounding, and intentional, designed to support both your body and your nervous system. Across the week, we move through a chakra-based journey, allowing the experience to build and evolve naturally.
Do I need to be advanced at yoga?
No. This is a mixed-level retreat and is suitable for beginners through to more experienced practitioners. Options will always be offered, and you are encouraged to listen to your body and rest when needed.
Is everything optional or are sessions required?
How physically demanding is the retreat?
The retreat is moderately active. The Hatha practices are slow but strong, while Yin offers a more restful and restorative balance. Overall, the experience is designed to feel supportive rather than exhausting, with time each day to rest and integrate.
I’m coming alone. Will I feel welcome?
Yes. Many people come on retreat on their own. The environment is warm, inclusive, and supportive, and connection tends to happen naturally through shared experiences across the week.
Do I need a visa?
Most Australian passport holders do not require a visa for short stays in Japan. However, we recommend checking your individual requirements before travelling.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes, travel insurance is highly recommended for all guests to cover any unexpected changes or events.
What should I pack?
You will receive a detailed packing list after booking. As this is a winter retreat, warm clothing is essential. You will also need comfortable clothing for yoga, walking, and relaxing, along with anything that supports your personal comfort during the week.
